Peruvian Priest's Huipil dating from the late mid 20th century. Fully hand embroidered with an array of flora and fauna in glittering lurex threads surely meant to evoke the spirit essence during important ceremonies. Large fantastic tassels tie at the sides and can be moved to an additional set of hand sewn eyelets. In remarkable vintage condition great for wearing as well as display. This is a wonderful poncho with beautiful woven and embroidered motifs of flowers and animals. The background is a riot of mottled reds, greens, and white, with a scrolling white border at each end. Over this, the images are picked out in emerald, scarlet, sky blue, copper, lavender, gold, and a riot of supplementary hues. The embroidery is whimsical and charming, with stylized flowers, peacocks, lambs, goats, and other creatures. The garment is made in the form of a flat shawl with a vertical neck slit bound in turquoise satin, frange at both ends, and 8 sumptuous, muticoloured tassels. This is a truly gorgeous piece, with beautiful workmanship and a wonderful sense of cultural heritage. Versatile and cosy, it will bring colour and warmth to the greyest of days.
