"When edgy fashion is steeped in something familiar, it becomes far less alienating to the consuming public." - Byron Lars
Byron Lars is an American designer with a “do it yourself” spirit. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay area of California but moved to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduating in 1987 he worked freelance but grew tired of limiting his creativity by working for others. In 1991 he self financed his own runway collection and critics took notice. His unique flair for integrating menswear through shirt dresses and fabric use. He accessorized with over the top hats and quirky accessories like handbag boom-boxes and lunch-boxes. His designs were soon carried by major retailers who noticed that although his designs were fun his technique in cutting was serious. He later designed collections for Victoria’s Secret and a line of Barbie dolls with Mattel. Today, Lars has a new line called “Byron Lars Beauty Mark” that focuses more on simpler garments without the lofty designer price point.
