“For something to be beautiful, it doesn’t have to be pretty”
Garments designed by the vintage fashion label, Comme des Garcons are often unmistakable with their curious, human shape transforming, brilliantly artistic qualities. The vintage designer, Rei Kawakubo in Japan, 1969, founded the vintage fashion design label, Comme des Garcons, first as a stylist. Formally trained in the higher arts, Rei Kawakubo’s education and natural tendency towards being a true artist, is unyieldingly apparent through her later years as she morphed into a vintage fashion designer. Rei Kawakubo brought onto the fashion world some of the most exceptional displays of artistically generated vintage fashion design ever seen through her vintage fashion label, Comme des Garcons. Many of Kawakubo’s remarkably avante garde, vintage creations have been praised by the art community and seen worn by fashion-forward pop icons such as Bjork and Lady Gaga.
