With the passing of Queen Victoria just past the turn of the century, society was buzzing thanks to the technologies of the Industrial Revolution. It was a new century, the years just prior to the Modern Age, where old world sentiments meet head to head with more practical desires for day-to-day dressing. Day wear thus became more paired down, and only the evening hours still saw the over-ornamentation carrying over from the prior years. Tea dresses were still common, and with the new factories pumping out ready to wear, we see a booming middle-class dressing up, yet with their own practicality about it.
