"We design from the streets. We start at the bottom and move up." - François Girbaud
French designer duo Marithé Bachellerie and François Girbaud established their joint fashion line in 1965. Their mark on deconstructivist street style is hard to place categorically but easy to admire. Their inspiration is always clear but has shifted to many different areas in their longstanding careers. Innovation is always at the forefront of their designs. They have developed specialized denim that better holds dye, use wrinkle resistant and permanently wrinkled fabrics, and often use synthetic fibers that mimic natural ones but are able to be melted together without the use of stitching. From utilitarian chic to ancient peasant inspired silhouettes the team of Marithé Bachellerie and François Girbaud kept fashion followers guessing until the brand’s final show in 2013.
