This is a striking green and purple mod dress from the 1960s. We purchased this from a large estate with numerous Pierre Cardin and Rudi Gernreich pieces. The woman who sold it to us claimed this to be a Gernreich however there is no label, we are just passing along it's provenance. Made of a lime green wool honeycomb knit, the bold torso is set off by a magenta purple yoke of soft suede. The dress is drop-waisted, with a rolled seam around the hips to define the figure, and oval cutouts in the yoke to show a glimpse of the shoulderblades in back and the collarbones in front. The keyhole back neck is closed at the nape of the spine with a suede-covered botton: a sophisticated detail on this striking dress. The neckline is bound in self-suede for a beautifully finished edge, and the stitching which attaches the suede to the knit is immaculate. This dress incorporates two of the most difficult materials to sew, and does so with apparent ease and skill. With playful colours and a unique design, this charming vintage piece is a wonderful find of superb quality.
