Here Mr Beene literally wear's his inspiration on the sleeve. The 1970s were an interesting shift in Geoffrey Beene's aesthetic. He himself refers to his earlier work as stiff and un-feminine. The world of dance of the 1970s influenced him greatly. He drew from the previous era when women were free to flounce and flow in their garments unrestricted and he kept this as his ethos and mission for his entire career. This jersey dress calls to both the past as well as the 1970s in its lean shape and minimalist construction. Printed all over with the lovely fashion plates of the 1920s and 1030s the nostalgic reference is obvious however this dress was surely intended for a modern woman. The condition on this dress is not mint however we couldn't resist this print from an important transitional phase of one of the 20th century's most influential designers.
